Following the withdrawal of the Shiite Duo’s ministers from the latest Lebanese government session, and Minister Fadi Makki’s withdrawal from the session as well, how does Makki respond when asked whether he represents the Shiite community or the state and government?

Makki explains that he belongs to the Shiite community and acknowledges that the Shiite Duo has the largest representation within the community, noting that the ministerial formation included a fifth minister outside the framework of the Shiite Duo, with a minimum level of support.

Makki emphasizes that he represents the Shiite community while, in parallel, representing the state and, above all, the state-building project.

He explains that being an independent Shiite minister means maintaining a minimum level of coordination with all segments of society. Independence, he says, does not mean isolation, but rather building bridges, communicating with everyone, conveying different points of view, and focusing primarily on advancing the state-building project, which concerns everyone.
