The Speech’s camera toured the streets of Beirut to ask residents about transport alternatives. Lebanon is facing a transport crisis and rising fuel prices.
Opinions varied. One participant joked about the state of transport: “No tram, no train, just a donkey.” Others playfully suggested using a donkey instead.
Some passersby said they walk long distances as their main way of getting around. One woman said she would prefer a train. In her view, it brings everyone together and makes travel more fun. A man joked that his own transport is a Renault 11.
One resident said he relies on the bus every day. However, the cost strains his budget by the end of the month.
Another woman chose the bicycle. She said it lets her skip the traffic. She can reach the American University of Beirut (AUB) from Jeitawi in about ten minutes.
