We revisit an excerpt from a previous interview with former MP Dory Chamoun, in which he discusses Hezbollah’s political approach in Lebanon and his views on the future of Iranian policy toward the country.

Chamoun argued that Hezbollah’s political and military approach, which relies on Iranian support, would not be able to continue in the same way, given Iran’s deepening economic crisis and its inability to maintain the same level of external assistance and regional influence.

He also suggested that the changing situation in Syria would eventually push Tehran to “take a step back” and respect international law and Lebanon’s sovereignty. In his view, this would in turn force Hezbollah to adapt to these changes and follow a national political path.

Chamoun concluded with a calm message: “We just need a little patience… I’m not afraid.”
