The seizure of a shipment of weapons and explosives has drawn warnings from MPs. They say it threatens civil peace and the country’s stability. Some also accuse certain groups of continuing to act outside state authority.

In statements to The Speech, MPs voiced anger that the government’s bold decisions on restricting weapons have not changed realities on the ground. They called the return of explosives smuggling a serious threat to Lebanese security. In their view, it also recalls methods used in past assassinations.

Calls for fast, transparent investigations

Parliamentary circles urged the security and judicial authorities to take responsibility. They want transparent, swift investigations to uncover the truth and reassure the public. These should stay clear of political bickering and lead to decisive outcomes.

A breach of a Cabinet decision

The MPs also reminded readers of an official decision. On March 2, 2026, the Cabinet declared such groups outlaws. They said these practices clearly violate that decision.

They stressed that the whole file must stay in the hands of the judiciary and the security agencies. These bodies, they said, must work in full coordination with state institutions alone.
