Warnings are growing that Lebanon’s streets are close to exploding. The cost-of-living crisis and rising prices keep getting worse. MPs say the way out requires clear choices on sovereignty and stability. It must also end citizens’ inability to afford the basics of life.

In statements to The Speech, MPs explained that their oversight and legislative role focuses on questioning the government. They want to know how its decisions will be put into practice on the ground. They stressed that placing weapons solely in the state’s hands is the essential first step. Only then can institutions carry out real reforms.

Easing the economic burden

On the economy and public finances, MPs pointed to ongoing efforts to press the government. They want amendments to the budget to ease the burden on citizens. They also want to open the door to financial inflows and foreign investment.

The key battle: sovereignty and reforms

MPs concluded that the main battle is restoring the state’s sovereignty and moving the country toward stability. Parliament carries the biggest responsibility. It must pass the structural reforms needed to attract investment. First among them is the judicial independence law.
