The Women Peacebuilders Network in Lebanon held a press conference, delivering a series of messages calling for the preservation of civil peace and the strengthening of social stability amid the country’s current circumstances.
The network firmly rejected any slide toward civil war and stressed the dangers posed by growing waves of incitement on social media and in the media.
The participants called for an immediate end to such rhetoric, warning that any threat to civil peace would harm all Lebanese people without exception.
The network also warned that Lebanon is going through a critical moment, with growing risks of tension and social division.
It expressed concern over the rise of hate speech and incitement, which it said are being fueled by political and media practices that exploit fear and division.
According to the network, such rhetoric threatens Lebanon’s social fabric and creates opportunities for external actors to exploit internal divisions.
The press conference concluded with the slogan: “Lebanon First… Peace First.”
