Following a protest action over the Israeli killing of journalist Amal Khalil, Joseph al-Qseifi, head of the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate, called for an official memorandum to be submitted to the United Nations Secretariat-General.
The aim is to call for Israel to respect international conventions and norms protecting journalists, media workers, and photographers in the field.
Al-Qseifi highlighted the stark and unequal conditions on the ground, contrasting Israel’s military arsenal including artillery, aircraft, and attack drones with journalists, who have little more than their helmets, protective vests, and professional commitment.
He stressed that the move is part of the syndicate’s responsibility to protect journalists and colleagues working in the field.
